A Classic Spring Pairing: Strawberry & Rhubarb

In Breakfast, Recipes by Frances Largeman Roth

After many false starts, Spring is finally here! Two of my favorite spring ingredients are rhubarb and strawberries, and of course they’re a classic pairing. Rhubarb is too tart on its own, and strawberries lend the stalks just enough natural sweetness to balance it out in the loveliest way possible.

Summer Reboot! Cantaloupe Coco-Mango Smoothie

In Recipes, Smoothies by Frances Largeman Roth

OK, it finally got hot enough here for me to want to keep my Vitamix on the counter full time. When I have the luxury of going out on an afternoon run, I don’t really like sitting down and eating lunch afterwards (too many things to do!), but I’m down with drinking my lunch. Here’s what I came up with today: The summer version of my Coco-Mango Smoothie from Eating in Color. I’ll call this one Cantaloupe Coco-Mango Smoothie. Remix!

Red, White & Blue Potato Salad

In Recipes, Salads by Frances Largeman Roth

I love the 4th of July. As a kid it meant heading out to our cottage on the pond, roasting marshmallows and watching the mini fireworks display reflect over the water. I’m happy to report that our Independence Day celebration won’t be too different, minus the pond and the fireworks (too dangerous for the little ones). There will definitely be grilling, some running through the sprinkler, and some s’mores. And let’s not forget relaxing–it is officially summer now after all!

Green Greek Goddess Dip

I’m not a huge football fan, but my husband Jon is and that means that we have plenty of game watching get togethers this time of year. He’s all about the chicken wings, but I like something fresh and healthy to munch on (big surprise) and I often bring this Green Greek Goddess Dip, from Eating in Color, along to share.

Holiday Rum Balls!

In Desserts, Recipes by Frances Largeman Roth

Hello Friends,

I hope you’re all wrapping up work and starting your holiday celebrations. With Chanukah so early this year, it feels like we already did the holidays, yet Christmas is just three days away. I didn’t really grow up celebrating Christmas per se, but it’s my sister’s birthday and my mom grew up with the tradition in Germany, so I like to celebrate with traditional foods and make the house feel festive. One way I carry on my mom’s traditions is by making her rum balls.

Oma’s Hamantaschen

In Desserts, Recipes by Frances Largeman Roth

The Jewish holiday of Purim is coming up on March 23rd. It’s a fun celebration that usually entails kids getting dressed up as characters from the story of Haman. He’s the bad guy in the story and whenever you hear his name during a reading of the story, you’re supposed to use a noisemaker. It’s lots of fun for kids! My favorite part of the holiday is making and eating Hamantaschen. They are triangular cookies that are made to look like Haman’s 3-pointed hat.

Rhubarb-Plum Syrup and Cocktail!

Happy almost summer everyone! The weather has been gorgeous here in Brooklyn, NY, and that means we’ve been outside grilling, playing and taking advantage of these fleeting, perfect days. Another thing that’s here and gone in a minute is rhubarb. These super tart stalks are actually a vegetable, but we usually don’t think of them as that since we’re always pairing it with sweet fruit.
