Green Dream Smoothie

It’s winter and the days are short and your immune system takes a hit, thanks to fewer hours of sunlight and too many hours inside surrounded by other people’s germs. It’s a recipe for getting sick, but you can arm yourself by eating right and getting enough sleep. This smoothie packs in 600 mg of potassium—important for muscle function and fluid balance—and 5 g of filling and gut-boosting fiber (remember, your gut is your body’s first line of defense against getting sick). Plus, one serving provides 30 percent of your daily vitamin B-6, which is important for the metabolism of red blood cells and hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to your body’s tissues. This B vitamin is vital for your immune system to function properly too, so blend up the Green Dream today!

Note: If you happen to have some fresh ginger on hand, add a 1-inch piece to the other ingredients and blend!

Ingredients:

  • ½ ripe avocado, pitted and peeled
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • ¼ cup ice (about 2 cubes), plus more for serving
  • 1 cup plain oat milk, or milk of choice
  • 1 cup sliced Persian cucumbers
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup chilled green grapes

Preparation:

Combine all of the ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Serve over additional ice, if desired.
