Diet Soda, Fighting Hunger Traps, and More

Happy 4th of July Everyone! I hope you're all getting some much-needed R&R and enjoying some of those all-American favorites. I thought I'd share some of the media clips I did this week. On Fox News I talked about the latest study on diet soda and weight. It seems there is a connection betweenweight gain and diet soda intake. While diet soda contains no calories, it can increase appetite and may trigger the body to go searching for more "real" calories elsewhere. I chatted with the 5 o'clock new team about it, and then came back the next morning on Good Day NY to dish some more with Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto.

And then on Saturday I joined the lovely Rebecca Jervis onCBS Early Show to talk about what triggers hunger. It's actually pretty fascinating to learn about how making changes to your environment--lighting, size of plates, how you store food--can make a big difference in your waistline. Basically very bright light or dim light can cause you to eat more, so go with 60-75 watt bulbs in your kitchen and dining room. And remember those plates Grandma gave you? It's time to dig them out and swap them for the huge 12" plates you're using now. And I wasn't kidding Rebecca when I told her that I eat my ice cream with a demitasse spoon! I also put it in a tiny round glass, which perfectly fits a 1/2 cup portion. Here's the clip. And remember, enjoy yourself, but don't make choices you'll regret come Tuesday:) And if you haven't bought burger fixings yet, go for bison--it's delicious and leaner than ground beef. Happy 4th!
